Heavy Combination Truck Licence Minimum Requirements

  1. Have held a Medium Rigid (MR) or Heavy Rigid (HR) Licence for 1 year.
  2. Pay the appropriate fee and pass the Heavy Vehicle Knowledge Test with Service NSW or  Queensland Transport.
  3. Pay the appropriate booking fee and pass the practical Driving Test with Service NSW or  Queensland Transport .

If you have a Condition B (Synchromesh) or unrestricted MR or HR licence, you may want to complete you test in the automatic making it an easier process to obtain your heavy combination truck licence (HC).

Upgrade To A Manual Licence

If you have a Condition A (Automatic) or Condition B (Synchromesh) MR or HR licence and want a HC licence you may consider completing your test in our HR road ranger truck as once you have completed you test in our road ranger manual truck, you will have an unrestricted heavy vehicle licence.

3 Types of HC Licences

Heavy Combination Unconditional

A Heavy Combination Unconditional Licence has no restrictions on the gearbox. You can drive any heavy rigid vehicle with automatic transmission, synchromesh, or one using a double clutching technique.

Heavy Combination Condition B (HCB)

With a Heavy Combination Condition B licence, you are allowed to drive an HC-heavy vehicle with a manual transmission or automatic gearbox.

Heavy Combination Condition A (HCA)

The Heavy Combination Condition A licence only allows you to drive vehicles with automatic gearboxes.
